Discovering Holistic Health and Vitality
“When we feel embodied, we live from our soul and our purpose.”
“If the soul is not in the body, where is the soul?”
I’ve always been intrigued by this question from Walt Whitman. So, it caught my attention when I heard Lauren Roxburgh say that our “fascia is transmitting our soul in our bodies.”
Lauren is a pioneer in body alignment, holistic health, and fascia (the connective tissue that wraps under our skin and around our organs like a spider web). Everything clicked when she explained that when there is tension in our fascia—which can manifest as knots and tightness—our life force energy is blocked.
She describes fascia as a “living matrix: holding and remembering everything that we experience in our lives.” When we feel overwhelmed by an experience, it gets stored in our fascia. I’ve always believed that when we create space in our body, we create space in our life. So, I was captivated by her healing modality of movement medicine. It helps us move our emotions and experiences outside of our body, without even talking.
The practices in her Aligned Life Studio are the most healing and transformative I’ve experienced. Whether it’s a series of stretches or foam rolling, I feel taller, less inflamed, and breathe better immediately after. If I hadn't experienced it myself, I wouldn’t have believed that creating alignment and fluidity in your body could be so easy and enjoyable. (You can try a seven-day trial to the studio here).
Lauren shares that the truth is in the tissues and asks clients questions while helping them realign their bodies. She recommends these whilst doing the practices at home…
What inspires me?
Do I feel grounded?
Do I feel connected to my sense of knowing and wisdom?
Am I speaking my truth? Do I feel heard or am I swallowing my emotions?
Am I walking my true path?
With a newfound sense of freedom, people shift from trying to control life to becoming more open, receptive, and trusting. In her book, The Power Source, she writes: “In order to create real, long-lasting, transformational change, your body, thoughts, emotions, and actions have to match your intentions…You have to not just think about your intentions, but also feel them on a cellular level. Only then can a shift occur.”
Here’s a simple practice to start…
“The best time to use affirmations is right when you wake up in the morning. There’s a window of opportunity in between sleeping and being in your conscious mind. You can start to program yourself with more positive emotions or whatever you want to experience in the day. I often say: ‘I create space to embody grace.’ So, I don’t become a victim of stress throughout the day.
We're energetic beings. Everything that is showing up in our reality is based on what we're vibrating and what we're being. If you're looking for something, you have to be it. It’s doing the work within that creates the shift on the outside. Be the energy you want to attract.”
We delve into Lauren’s mind-body-energy approach in our conversation, exploring everything from body alignment to heart coherence and stress management. I hope her practices will be as rejuvenating for you as they’ve been for me.
With gratitude,
Jenna
