Finding Your Center in the Present Moment
“Our bodies speak the truth. Our bodies don’t have the capacity to lie to us. But, our minds do.”
Close your eyes and remember a time when you felt truly grateful.
Settle into that moment as we explore this exercise with psychotherapist and Frame Co-founder, Sage Grazer.
“If I asked you right now: What do you feel when you’re anxious? You could list different signs that you’re anxious. But, if you think about: What signs does my body give me when I’m grateful or when I’m in a positive state? It takes people a little more time to think about that.
What tells you that you’re experiencing gratitude beyond just the thoughts? What things can you tap into that can help you reinforce that experience?”
This exercise not only offers a gateway into enduring appreciation. More importantly, it illuminates an entry point into the present moment: Being in our bodies.
“Our bodies speak the truth. Our bodies don’t have the capacity to lie to us. But, our minds do.”
In the first of a series of mental wellbeing conversations, Sage and I explore how listening to our bodies can help us discern how we truly feel and make choices that support our highest wellbeing. We articulate how to discern what our baseline is to understand the impact of our thoughts and authoring healthy self narratives.
I appreciate the way Sage highlights our agency, whilst recognizing that stress is inevitable. As we navigate full, and highly stimulating, lives she helps us answer — When should I push myself versus when should I nurture myself? — and employ coping behaviors to return to our baseline, like exhaling to signal to our body that we are safe.
What does gratitude feel like in your body? How might you anchor in those feelings today?
Wishing you a peaceful 2022,
Jenna
