Joy as a Compass
“We have to push ourselves to find joy. Otherwise, we can get stuck in darkness, and in darkness, there is no light.”
Take a moment to reflect on a question you’re presently facing — It may be an important family decision or a professional challenge. Welcome it into your awareness with no judgment. Then, ask yourself…
What’s the best thing that can happen?
I’m always thankful to my friend Kendra Bracken-Ferguson, Founder of BrainTrust, for teaching me to find conviction in the potential of a positive outcome, rather than the worst.
“It’s okay to dream and believe that the best thing can happen to you. We have to have that belief in order to manifest it.”
Optimism is a choice, not a guarantee. Still, Kendra’s perspective begs the question…How might viewing our life through a positive lens change the way we experience it?
“There’s going to be things that don’t go our way. We have a moment to live that — to cry, to be angry. Then, we have to keep going. No one is going to keep going for us.
We have to push ourselves to find joy. Otherwise, we can get stuck in darkness, and in darkness, there is no light.”
Kendra anchors her joy in faith and gratitude. She reminds me of Brother David Steindl-Rast’s wisdom that while we can’t be grateful for everything. We can be grateful in every moment.
“In anything and everything, we give thanks.”
Our human experience is layered, now more than ever. Gratitude is an invitation to see the light and derive the strength to spread it.
What are three things you’re grateful for? How might you live in that state of appreciation today?
Wishing you peace,
Jenna
Thank you for spotlighting me and standing in JOY!
